NQP takes to the water in support of the Back Up Trust

On one of the hottest days in September intrepid NQP rowers took to the water at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre in support of the Back Up Trust (http://www.backuptrust.org.uk/home), a charity dedicated to helping those who have suffered a spinal cord injury.  The Trust’s services include mentoring, wheelchair skills training and activity courses as well as support in getting back to work or school after an injury.  Their aim is to build confidence and independence.

Seven teams ventured onto the water that balmy evening.  One team decided it was far too hot for them and capsized shortly before the finish line on their last race!  Luckily the NQP Pirates stayed dry and went on to try out their wheelchair skills around an obstacle course and ramp.  One NQP participant made heavy contact with the tarmac with wheels in the air but unfortunately no photographic evidence exists.

Plans are being made for rowing practice in the future if the event is repeated next year.  A good time was had by all and lots of money raised for a good cause.  The last rays of September sunshine and warmth were enjoyed at a BBQ afterwards.
